Mathematics

Mathematics in the NSW Australian Curriculum

At our school, we provide a dynamic and engaging Mathematics program that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in our students. Aligned with the NSW Australian Curriculum, our Mathematics curriculum covers the key areas of Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability, ensuring that every student builds a strong foundation in mathematical concepts.

In line with the latest updates from the NSW Department of Education, we incorporate the new Units of Work into our curriculum, offering a structured and comprehensive approach to learning. These units are designed to ensure a consistent and progressive learning experience, while also focusing on real-world applications of mathematics. They provide students with hands-on opportunities to explore mathematical concepts through engaging activities, discussions, and collaborative tasks.

Our Mathematics program emphasizes:

  • Developing fluency in basic mathematical skills and number sense.
  • Encouraging problem-solving and critical thinking through practical scenarios.
  • Building confidence and resilience in approaching mathematical challenges.
  • Enhancing mathematical communication, helping students explain their reasoning clearly.

By incorporating the new units of work, we ensure that our students are equipped with the skills and knowledge to succeed both in school and beyond. We strive to make learning mathematics a positive and rewarding experience for all students, fostering a lifelong love of learning and a strong foundation for future success.

The study of mathematics is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

By studying mathematics, students learn to work mathematically – developing fluency, understanding, problem-solving, reasoning and communication skills.

The syllabus consists of the following strands:

  • number and algebra
  • measurement and geometry
  • statistics and probability.
